Photo Adventures with Curiosity and Learning

Some history of Silver Glen Springs

The Internet is full of surprises. A few months ago, Ray King Jr. wrote to me about the photos I took at Silver Glen Springs. He included many photos from the 40s and I though this would make a wonderful addition to my photos. He has written a delightful history of their family's encounters with Silver Glen Springs - and for me, this is the Internet at its best - connecting folks with intersecting interests.

A very insightful history of Silver Glen Springs

Silver Glen Springs - 1930

Ray King:
"Photographer was positioned on the inside curve of the bend and looking
westward toward Sandboil Creek which is entering the run to the left of
the palm trees. This anonymous photo* was taken around 1930 and shows
this portion of the run as it was in the 1930-1950's.

I remember seeing that white marker on the other side. The main channel is
just in front of it. The extensive grass beds in this view are all now bare
as may be seen in much later photographs. We never went into the grass beds,
not even as swimmers. The photo of me fishing on the dock circa. 1948, would
have been about 100 feet to the right of campers on this same side and the
background in that photo would have been these grass beds in the bend."
