Coral Island: Snorkeling and learning about Myanmar
We arrived at Coral Island via a flight (TG207) from Bangkok to Phuket. Then a drive to the pier at the southern end of the island and then a speed boat ride to the Coral Island.

The beach to the left and right was breath taking!

and there were always the special Thai long boats to navigate over the coral

The staff was equally fantastic:

On the northern beach were day visitors - making noise with parasails and other sorts of things day visitors do

There was a coral reef about 10 meters from the water's edge - and only in about 1 meter of water so no diving necessary - only snorkeling until your heart was absolutely content. We stayed in a nice bungalow and when in the water observed many interesting creatures:

Our Bungalow

Our outside aquarium - the water and the reef

and the sea urchins (with what looks like an eye) and a worm beside a giant clam

Parrot and sargent major fish

and an angel fish

and coral

In addition to the staff, I learned something of life in Myanmar from Soe and his friends. They sort of migrate from Myanmar to the tourist regions of south Thailand where they provide much of the staff for resorts in the area. Their smiles were infectious.

Each evening brought an informal football game

I was curious about the sand-colored make-up used by the women above. A google search of Myanmar yielded something about Myanma Thanakha - the yellow paste derived from Limonia Acidissma Linn. Another site describes the hygienic aspects of this derivative from tree bark . Here is another link
